Green Juice

May 12, 2025 · 1 min read

Last year, Mike and I were heading back from England in an airport lounge that offered cold-pressed juice shots. I was astonished at how immediately it cleared the fog and made me feel instantly alert, balanced, and refreshed.

Fast forward to a new staple in my daily routine. Juicing is not only a lot more affordable done in-house, but it's also a great practice for using up bits and bobs in the fridge.

Here's my loose recipe:

  • Two or three big ginger roots
  • Fresh turmeric root (if I can get it) or a few teaspoons of powder
  • Three or four bundles of greens (I like kale)
  • A few pounds of green and sweet apples
  • At least 3–5 lemons depending on size
  • Any fresh herbs on hand (basil or mint are my favourite)

I find these shots to be an even more effective eye opener in the morning than coffee. They also help with any queasiness of taking supplements.

Hoping to grow at least the kale this year. If you're toying with similar kitchen alchemy experiments, let's compare notes!
